A dance thriller on the famous bridge DE HEF in Rotterdam, which is the magical focus of architecture and a symbol of heroism from which thrill seekers made “the jump”. A joint venture between filmmaker Marijke Jongbloed, choreographer Ed Wubbe (Scapino Ballet) and composer/performer Harry de Wit. 10 min. NPS & BBC.
A BBC-NPS-Egmond Film production
ENCLOSED wants to draw the audience into an alien, surreal world that features a bridge as an awesome structure for a dangerous encounter.
The quest for the perfect location led the makers of this film automatically to the impressive monumental lifting bridge "De Hef", an icon of Rotterdam's power and once celebrated in one of the first Joris Ivens films. Ivens could not imagine back then that the bridge was going to be used during the depression years of the 30-ties as a way of escaping anonymity. Heroism and despair went hand in hand for those whose "leaps"from the bridge brought them fame or the final escape from their misery.
Being driven by fear while simultaneously seeking it out is the major element of tension in this dance thriller. The embodiment of flirting with danger is performed by two female friends, who are seduced by a mysterious host and his alluring sounds coming from the bulwark.
Watched and held as marionettes, they are his prey in his game of terrorizing and seducing. Within the confining structure of railings and contours the women experience their own chaos as the bridge becomes their prison. Driven higher and higher, reaching the climax in their own salto mortale….
